In
2002 Durston Manufacturing Co. celebrated its 70th anniversary
over half a century providing quality products for the
automotive industry. Ray Duston founded the Flexible
Carbon Scraper Co. in 1932 in Pasadena, California.
Using his $200 WWI Sailor's Bonus as capital he began
manufacturing the company's first product the Flexible
Carbon Scraper.
In
1944 the VIM Tool Company acquired the brand name
VIM TOOLS and the trademark VIM was adopted to identify
the company's expanded line of proprietary specialty
automotive tools.
In 1946 the company incorporated in the state of California
as the Durston Manufacturing Co. The company continued
to grow and expand its product line. By 1959 having
out grown the Pasadena facility, property was purchased
in La Verne, California and a new larger facility
was built. Over the years the plant was enlarged several
times as was the product line which now includes over
400 products.
